Xiaomi surpassed Apple to become third smartphone brand in the global market in Q3, 2020: Counterpoint
Today, Counterpoint Research, a well-known market research agency, released a mobile phone market tracking report for the third quarter of 2020. The report shows that the global smartphone market shipped 366 million units in the third quarter of 2020, down 4% year-on-year, but up 32% month-on-month.
Among them, Samsung returned to the championship with a 22% market share and shipments of 80.4 million units, an increase of 48% month-on-month and 3% year-on-year, setting a new high in the past three years.
Huawei (including Honor) has a share of 14%, ranking second. Xiaomi’s shipments increased by 75% month-on-month and accounted for 13% of global smartphone shipments. It is worth mentioning that this is the first time that Xiaomi has surpassed Apple to become the Top 3 in the global smartphone market.
In addition, Apple’s iPhone shipments fell by 7% year-on-year, mainly because the release of the new iPhone was delayed from the third quarter of 2020 to the fourth quarter. Both OPPO and Vivo have an 8% market share, ranking fifth and sixth. In terms of feature phones, the global feature phone market shipped 74 million units in the third quarter of 2020, down 17% year-on-year.
The Middle East and Africa remain the largest feature phone markets, accounting for 37% of global feature phone shipments, followed by India (36%). Transsion Group leads the global feature phone market with a share of more than 35%.
