Due to the violence that broke out in the factory of Apple’s manufacturer Wistron in Kolar, Karnataka, India, Apple’s plan to produce the latest iPhone 12 in India may be delayed.
It is understood that after India launched the PLI (Production Incentive) program this year, Apple’s attitude towards Indian production has gradually turned positive. Apple’s new iPhone SE launched in April this year will be mass-produced by Wistron’s Bangalore plant in August this year.
The time to move to India for production was shortened to four months. Originally, the iPhone 12 series is expected to be mass-produced in India four months after the launch and will be manufactured by Wistron. This will save Apple about 25% of import tariffs.
However, after Wistron’s new plant in India was destroyed, even if Wistron has officially announced to India that the new plant has begun to reorganize and rebuild the damaged area, and Hon Hai’s Indian plant can also support the iPhone 12 series. The production mission of the iPhone 12 series in India has been delayed.
Indian factors recited manpower dispatch companies and local analysts as saying that before Apple completed the investigation report on the destruction of Wistron’s factory by employees, the iPhone 12 series was either changed to Wistron’s old factory in Bangalore.
It’s unlikely that the Indian factory will be responsible. In particular, Hon Hai’s Indian factory is now in full capacity to make up for the backward progress during the closure of India. For the production line and personnel, it is a bit difficult to directly undertake OEM orders for the iPhone 12 series.
