Tipster @DigitalChatStation broke the news today that a manufacturer’s test device equipped with MediaTek’s new platform has reached a frequency of 3.2GHz. This chip uses a Cortex-A78 core, which seems to be based on 6nm.
MediaTek’s CEO said this month that its latest 5G flagship chip will be released in the first quarter of next year, hoping to launch it before the Chinese New Year. The industry expects that MediaTek’s new 5G chips to be launched next year will use TSMC’s 5nm or 6nm process.
In addition, @DigitalChatStation previously broke the news that MediaTek has two 5/6nm chips about to be released, one of which is the 6nm chip MT6893, which adopts the ARM Cortex-A78 core design, and the main core has a maximum frequency of 3.0GHz, which is relative to the current 7nm process. Dimensity 1000+ with the core of A77 will be improved.
It is worth mentioning that because TSMC’s advanced process production capacity is very tight, especially the 5nm process, almost all related production capacity has been underwritten by Apple in the near future. Therefore, when MediaTek can receive TSMC’s 5nm process support in the future, it will affect the supply of subsequent chips.
