AMD will release a new generation of Ryzen processors at CES 2021

AMD will release a new generation of Ryzen processors at CES 2021. This time the upgrade is Ryzen 5000 notebook processors. Among them, the Ryzen 5000U low-power series is also an improved version of the Zen2 vest with high performance. The version of the Ryzen 5000H series is Zen3 architecture.

The biggest feature of Zen3’s architecture is that its performance has risen sharply, and its IPC has increased by 19%. The Ryzen 5000H series will focus on the game market this time, which can just take advantage of Zen3’s high IPC and high frequency.

In the Ryzen 5000H series, the new flagship Ryzen 9 5900HX will replace the previous Ryzen 9 4900H, with 8 cores and 16 threads, and the acceleration frequency has also been increased from 4.6GHz previously revealed to the current 4.7GHz.

The performance of the Ryzen 9 5900HX has been revealed several times before, and the PCGH website summarizes the latest results, which can be directly compared with several typical desktop 8-core processors.

Ryzen 9 5900HX’s GK5 scores 1535 points for single-core and 9015 points for multi-core. If you compare the current Ryzen 9 4900HS (ASUS exclusive customized version, Ryzen 9 5900HX may also be ASUS exclusive customization), then the CPU single-core soars 40%, a 28% increase in multi-core.

If it is the standard version of the Ryzen 9 4900H, the single-core Ryzen 9 5900HX will increase by 25%, and the multi-core will increase by 8%.

Relying on the performance of the Zen3 architecture, it is nothing to bully the previous generation of mobile processors. In fact, the Ryzen 9 5900HX can almost catch up with the desktop 8-core processor, not counting the Core i7-10700K, but its own Ryzen 7. 5800X can also touch the side.

In comparison, the single-core performance of the Ryzen 9 5900HX is only about 8% lower, and the multi-core performance is only about 10% lower. This performance gap is not too big. As long as the notebook manufacturer’s heat dissipation is good, the Ryzen 9 5900HX performance is completely comparable to the desktop 8-core CPU, and the performance of the notebook platform is so powerful for the first time.

After all, in terms of TDP power consumption, a 105W or even 125W desktop 8-core processor is much higher than a 45W-level notebook processor.
