Smart, known for its small city cars, has been sold to Geely Automobile by its parent company Daimler due to poor sales in recent years. In the future, the smart series will be taken over by Geely Automobile Holdings Group.

Lately, some overseas media leaked smart’s new car plan. Smart will release a compact pure electric SUV model that will be developed for the domestic market. Mercedes-Benz will assist in the design of the new car.

According to the report, smart’s upcoming new models are located in pure electric compact SUVs. This may be difficult to understand. However, the car will be built based on Geely’s SEA vast architecture.

The SEA Haohan architecture is a brand-new product that Geely has improved over 4 years and invested more than 18 billion yuan. The structure covers the 1800-3300mm wheelbase range, ranging from compact cars to medium and large vehicles, including cars, SUVs, MPVs, station wagons, sports cars, pickups, etc.

Models under this architecture will use a higher-tech battery system. The battery pack has a voltage of 800V, charges for 5 minutes, and has a range of up to 120km.

In terms of battery life, under NEDC operating conditions, it has no attenuation within 200,000 kilometers, and the total mileage exceeds 2 million kilometers.

According to the information received so far, additionally to the brand new models that will be released by smart, future Volvo models will also be established using SEA architecture.

It is worth mentioning that due to the vastness of the domestic electric vehicle market, new smart models will be launched mainly for the Chinese market, and Mercedes-Benz will play in the design of the vehicle.
