Apple has begun contacting qualified developers to notify them that they have been accepted by the Small Business Program, which allows developers to benefit from significantly reduced App Store commissions.
In November, Apple announced the “Small Business Program” (Small Business Program), for developers who earn less than $1 million per calendar year, App Store commissions will be reduced to only 15%.
Since December 3, developers can sign up for the small business program. According to the email shared by MacRumors, Apple has now begun to notify developers whether they are accepted.
All developers who earn less than $1 million in 2020 will be eligible for the program and enjoy a 15% preferential commission rate. Developers who join in 2021 will also be eligible. In the future, developers who earned less than $1 million in the previous calendar year will also be able to participate. For developers with annual revenues of more than $1 million, the App Store commission is still 30%.
The plan has been praised by many developers, but some large developers, such as Spotify and Epic Games, criticized the move, saying it broke the rules of the App Store.
Apple said that the program will be open to the vast majority of developers, and these developers will have access to the same Apple developer tools and programs. Apple hopes that the App Store Small Business Program can generate more digital commerce, support new jobs, and provide more funds for small businesses to reinvest in their own applications in the process of creating innovative software for Apple users.
