The first curved sensor is now officially put into mass production. It comes from a French company called “Curve-One”. Here is some information about the advantages of curved sensors.
But when will such sensors be used in mirrorless cameras? There must be no time. The problem is that a new lens series must be designed specifically for these curved sensors. “Older” lenses previously designed for flat sensors will not work properly.
We know that Sony had such prototype products and some patents several years ago. Mirrorlessrumors guessed that RX series fixed lens cameras using this sensor might come out in 2-3 years…
