First Chinese two-door electric sports car MG brand models based on the E-framework
MG has been positioned to be young and sporty since its inception in the automotive industry. Now, after turning to the electric car camp, MG also didn’t take the conventional road and started directly from the two-door sports car camp.
In 2017, MG launched the E-motion concept car, positioned as a two-door four-seater coupe. Now, as MG begins to transform to electrification, this car will finally usher in mass production.
Recently, the SAIC Ningde base will import the E-framework into a technological transformation project for the production of new MG brand models based on the E-framework.
The first model to be put into production is expected to be the mass production version of E-motion. Judging from the actual car map leaked before, the two-door body and the scissor door shape make the vehicle very exaggerated and radical.
Although taking into account market acceptance, it is expected that the E-motion mass production model will be the main four-door model.
However, from the perspective of MG’s personality and young and flamboyant car-making concept, the simultaneous launch of the coupe model cannot be ruled out.
Project information shows that the investment in the E-framework introduction technology transformation project is 254.15 million yuan, which is mainly to add new model molds in the stamping workshop and body workshop and to add or modify the process equipment of each workshop.
Without changing the total production capacity (still 240,000 units/year), MG electric vehicles will replace the production of some existing models.
In terms of vehicle performance, according to data released in 2017, the MG E-motion concept car has a cruising range of more than 500 kilometers and an acceleration of 100 kilometers in about 4 seconds.
According to the current average level of electric vehicles, the data delivered three years ago did not have too many bright spots. Therefore, the true level of power and battery life of the vehicle may be further improved.
