Construction of the world’s largest electric green commercial ship Three Gorges No. 1 officially started

CATL announced that the construction of the world’s largest pure electric green commercial ship ‘Three Gorges’ No. 1 jointly developed by China Yangtze Power Co., Ltd. and Hubei Yichang Transportation Group Co., Ltd. has officially started.

The cruise ship is expected to have an investment of 150 million yuan and can accommodate 1,300 locations. It is currently the world’s designed and built pure electric passenger ship with the largest battery capacity, the most seats, and the highest level of intelligence.

Independently achieve a number of leading breakthroughs:

For the ship’s battery power system, it has achieved full localization and a total of several major breakthroughs, which have effectively promoted the technological development of Chinese independent manufacturers in the field of battery power and realized the research and development and manufacturing of battery power systems with international competitiveness.

The ‘Yangtze River Three Gorges 1’will use clean hydropower to charge and achieve truly zero pollution. According to estimates, the use of the ‘Yangtze River Three Gorges 1’ pure electric cruise ship will reduce emissions of various pollutants each year: about 14 tons of carbon monoxide, about 17 tons of nitrogen oxides, and about 0.4 tons of inhalable particulate matter.

In terms of battery capacity, the ‘Yangtze River Three Gorges’ No. 1 made a major breakthrough. The ship is equipped with a Ningde era power battery with a total power of 7.5MWh, which is equivalent to the total battery capacity of more than 100 electric vehicles.

At the same time, in terms of battery power stations, the “Yangtze River Three Gorges” No. 1 ship uses 15 independent battery power stations, which can realize independent charging and discharging, and have sufficient redundancy, which has very high requirements for power distribution and energy management.

In addition, the ship also provides a wealth of push load methods, built-in three sets of azimuth propulsion, and a set of side push, support to provide electricity for two independent daily electric loads at the same time.

Not only has there been a breakthrough in battery power, but also in terms of safety. The ‘Yangtze River Three Gorges’ No. 1 divides the battery in the ship into four battery compartments for arrangement.

Additionally equipped with a backup pool power system to ensure navigation power. At the same time, the ship is equipped with a dual fire extinguishing system of heptafluoropropane and pressure water mist, which effectively prevents fires on the ship and guarantees the safety of personnel and equipment on the ship.

Trace the timeline of ship start:

In 2018, Yangtze Power established a scientific research project of “Research on Yangtze River Port Shore Power and Ship Electrification” and established a new business research group to study new technologies and new business forms such as ship electrification, and promote the electric ship project, involving the participation of relevant personnel from Three Gorges Power.

In 2019, Three Gorges Power and Yichang Transportation Group worked together to promote Yangtze Power to sign a cooperation agreement with it to formally cooperate to build electric boats. In 2019, complete the ship design and procurement and complete the review of the tender documents for the procurement of ship core equipment.

In September 2020, Yangtze Power completed the procurement of the core equipment “DC networking and battery power system” for electric ships; in November, Yichang Transportation Group completed the procurement of ship construction.

Construction has started, and it is planned to be officially launched in July 2021. It will be put into operation in November 2021.

It will mainly operate on tourist routes such as Two Dams and One Gorge, Yichang Yangtze River Night Cruise, Three Gorges Shiplift, etc., with conferences, receptions, and wedding banquets. Performance and other activities.

The official start of the ship will be the first step for the domestic battery system to take the lead in the world.

The development and breakthrough of several independent technologies will not only promote the independent research and development level of domestic enterprises but also intensify the research and development enthusiasm of independent innovative enterprises.

I believe that with the continuous technological research and development of domestic battery companies, more and more breakthroughs in marine battery power systems will be achieved, further narrowing the gap with international companies.
