The Global demand for notebooks and desktops will skyrocket in 2020, a phenomenon that has not been seen since the iPhone was launched in 2007. The soaring demand has caused supply to exceed supply, and many manufacturers are doubling production, but the shortage of goods is still serious. Gregg Prendergast, President of Acer’s Pan-American Region, said: “The entire supply chain has experienced unprecedented tension.”
Canalys pointed out in the report that by the end of 2021, the global installed capacity of PCs and tablets will reach 1.77 billion units and about 1.64 billion units in 2019. Canalys analyst Ishan Dutt recalled that in April a customer told a supplier that any device with a keyboard would be acceptable as long as it can be delivered within a week.
Although the demand is no longer urgent, consumers want to upgrade, which brings certain pressure to the industry.
Affected by the epidemic, production in many factories was blocked, and components such as screens and processors were seriously out of stock. Analysts pointed out that if there are no supply issues, sales in 2021 will be higher.
In order to meet demand, large PC manufacturers increase suppliers, speed up shipments, and showcase new models. These new opportunities will be launched next year. Although they are trying to increase production, they are still out of stock in the market.
IDC vice president Ryan Reith said that the governments of some countries provide stimulus funds to schools and companies, and high demand will continue until 2022.
