Following the leak of the CX-50 trademark, recently captured a set of spy photos of the car on the road test.
The new car will be positioned as a high-performance coupe SUV with a rear-drive platform and an in-line six-cylinder engine.
According to previous news, Mazda will use this model and platform to enter the high-end SUV market and upgrade its products to the level of Mercedes-Benz GLC or BMW X3. The new car is expected to be released in 2022.
From the spy photos, the more inclined D-pillar of the new car has a very obvious coupe SUV style, and the roof is also equipped with a luggage rack.
As per the report, the new car is likely to adopt the same way of opening doors as Rolls-Royce in the future. And this way of opening the door has appeared on Mazda CX-30, RX9, and other models before.
According to the length of the rear row, the new car is still a compact SUV, so the way of opening the door is more convenient for passengers to get on and off.
As for power, there have been rumors that the CX-50 will be based on Mazda’s newly developed rear-drive platform, the same platform as the next-generation Ma-6, and will also be furnished with an inline six-cylinder engine. If the news is comfortable, then the CX-50 will be a very sporty SUV.
The new car is expected to be officially unveiled in 2021 or 2022. Of course, the price will far exceed the current CX-5 model by then. What kind of performance it can have in the future is very worth looking forward to.
