Microsoft completely terminated the Win7 system support, but market share is still 25%

Posted on

At the beginning of January 2020, Microsoft completely terminated the Win7 system support. Except for special users who spend money to buy patches, other users have to consider the risk of continuing to use Win7. Even so, at the end of 2020, Win7’s market share is still 25%, only about 5% less in a year.

Net market share website has been tracking the share of various OS systems. According to their latest report, as of October, Win10’s market share ranked first from 57.85%, and Win7 system ranked second with a share of 24.79%. After that, the OS system share is only in the single digits, with Mac OS 10.15 at 4.18%, Win8.1 at 3.11%, and Mac OS 10.14 at 2.5%.

Compared with the data a year ago, Win10’s share increased from 51.95% to 57.85% now, an increase of 5 percentage points, while Win7 dropped from 29.64% to 24.79%, which is 5 percentage points less, basically, it can be considered Win7 The user upgraded to Win10.

Considering that Microsoft stopped supporting the Win7 system at the beginning of this year, it is normal for many enterprise users to migrate to the Win10 platform, but in terms of the total number, there are still many diehard Win7 users. Even if Microsoft gives up support, the share is only reduced by 5%.

It is not difficult to imagine that among the remaining Win7 system users, it is becoming more and more difficult to upgrade to Win10 because these people either have system hardware that does not meet the requirements of Win10, or the software used has not been fully followed up to Win10, and they will not be promoted if they are worried about problems. Yes, this is also a trouble with many old systems.

By the way, there are probably not many gamers in the Win7 system, because according to the hardware statistics of the Steam platform, Win10 has long been a monopoly advantage. The share of the data as of November is as high as 88.6%, and Win7 is only 0.22%. After all, DX12 Support is not in place and many technologies are outdated. PC players have to choose Win10.
