Operators in Russia will together build 5G joint venture

According to the latest reports, the Federal Antimonopoly Service of the Russian Federation announced that it had approved the application of operators to jointly build a 5G standard network in Russia during the review on December 21, and agreed on the premise that market competitiveness is guaranteed.

The Russian Federal Antimonopoly Service announced that the telecommunications company has agreed to Russia (Rostelecom), Russia Mobile Communications Systems, Inc. (MTS), Weipei Er Communications Company (Beeline brand), MegaFon company’s application for the establishment of a 5G joint enterprise.

As early as 2017, MegaFon and Rostelecom tried to jointly overcome the huge cost challenge of building a 5G network in the Russian market by uniting their forces. It is envisaged that the cooperation between the two parties may eventually be the establishment of a joint venture to jointly build a 5G network. This company will exist as an independent infrastructure operator.
