The Truecaller mobile app can help users prevent harassment calls. The company recently released a report and pointed out the trend of harassment calls in Malaysia. According to the survey results, in the past year, harassment calls from financial services have increased by 95%, as well as from insurance companies. Increased by 50%.

According to the Truecaller report, the total number of harassing calls in Malaysia this year has also increased slightly by 2.7% compared to last year; the company also pointed out that 97% of harassing calls in Malaysia are from domestic phone numbers.

The survey results showed that financial services accounted for 41% of harassment calls in Malaysia, fraudsters accounted for 24%, and insurance companies accounted for 15%.

The company also pointed out that during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period in March and April, the number of harassing calls decreased significantly; the number of harassing calls dropped to 6 million in March and 2 million in April. Truecaller said it believes this may be because telemarketers and crooks are unable to obtain certain equipment and technology.

However, this is a temporary situation, because, in May and June, the number of harassing calls began to increase after the government relaxed the movement restriction order; now, judging from the situation at the end of this year, scammers seem to be as usual. The same goes for fraud because the data has returned to the same level as at the beginning of the year.

The company said that the vast majority of scammers like to defraud the elderly, children, and housewives; scammers also claim to be their relatives or authority figures such as the Inland Revenue Service (LHDN) or the police to intimidate these people into giving money obediently.

Truecaller recently released an annual report on the 20 countries most affected by harassment calls. The report points out the impact of global harassment and fraudulent calls and provides insights. Last year, Malaysia ranked 19th, but it seems that the situation has improved because Our country is no longer in the top 20.

Truecaller has helped block 31.3 billion harassing calls globally, an increase of 18% from last year; the company attributed this result to more users using their services and an increase in the number of harassing calls.
