Alibaba to abolish 361 assessment system: Report
According to the latest news, it was learned that Alibaba Group CPO Tong Wenhong announced in an internal forum that the mandatory “361” assessment system will be abolished and direct leaders will no longer be forced to give 10% of employees a score of 3-3.25 Performance rating.
Alibaba’s performance appraisal system allocates the overall performance scoring standards according to the proportion of “361”: 30% of employees with 3.75-5 points, 60% of employees with 3.5-3.75 points, and 10% of employees with 3-3.25 points.
If the employee’s year-end performance is 3.25 points or less, the year-end bonus and promotion opportunities will be canceled, and the employee’s performance score below 3.25 for two consecutive years will face dismissal.
The “361” assessment system has recently aroused discussion on the Alibaba intranet. According to Alibaba insiders, Alibaba Group Chief Human Officer Tong Wenhong stated in an internal forum that the “361” assessment system will no longer be mandatory, and the new assessment standards will still follow the “361” classification, but the mandatory rating of 3.25 points for 10% of employees is removed.
Alibaba’s mandatory “361” evaluation system gives the number “3.25” the minimum performance standard a special meaning. In the early morning of March 25 this year, a large area of bugs occurred in Taobao IOS APP, which lasted for 12 hours. This “325 bug incident” was also dubbed by netizens as programmers’ “retaliation” for low performance. Bo responded by calling it “rumors.”
In July of this year, Alibaba also announced through an internal forum that it would no longer force employees to submit weekly reports. Ali said that it is necessary to put an end to PPT whose format is larger than the content without thinking, and does not encourage inefficient overtime work.
