According to Windows Latest report, Microsoft is studying the possibility of using broadband chips in Surface Book and Surface Pro to compete with Apple MacBook. This is the latest patent submitted by Microsoft.
Microsoft is working on an “interchangeable shell panel” in which the chassis can be “swapped” for faster Internet connections and other functions.
Microsoft pointed out in the patent application that it hopes to provide users with a simple and easy-to-use “panel” so that users can change the appearance of the device and add support for other features, such as faster cellular connections.
Users will be able to switch between different “clothes” while maintaining an overall and seamless feel. You can also switch between “limited” and “high-speed mobile data” connections by swapping out the “standard WiFi connection” module of the Surface Pro or Surface Book.
Broadband modules will mean better reception and speed. It may be as fast as the Surface Pro X with Qualcomm technology, which is obviously a major advantage.
However, we should not be too excited about Microsoft’s idea, because it is just a patent. This is no guarantee that Microsoft will eventually launch the corresponding product, but it shows the way of thinking of the Microsoft hardware research and development department.
