LG QNED TVs will receive nearly 30,000 tiny LEDs to provide a giant leap in image quality
LG Electronics has been working on the Mini display technology and will introduce several new 8K and 4K LCD TVs using this technology next year.
According to LG, Mini LED provides a giant leap in image quality. Currently, premium LCD TVs offer array-wide local dimming, with hundreds of LEDs serving as the backlight. They create controllable areas that can be darkened. This helps improve black depth and contrast.
In the case of Mini LEDs, the LEDs will be much smaller and the number will be much larger. This will provide the best contrast. LG created the backlight “consisting of nearly 30,000 tiny LEDs that deliver an incredible 1,000,000: 1 peak brightness and contrast, and up to 2,500 dimming zones.”
This results in better contrast, wider dynamic range, and greater color accuracy than conventional LCD TVs. In addition, these panels also feature high refresh rates up to 120Hz. LG is calling upcoming TVs QNED TV. LG is expected to release QNED TVs with screens up to 86 inches.
