Tesla will enter the Indian market next year, confirms transport minister
According to the latest news, the Indian government has confirmed that Tesla will enter the Indian market next year.
On Monday, Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Traffic and Transport of India, stated that Tesla will start operations in India early next year. The company will not only sell its popular electric vehicles in India but also May consider assembly and manufacturing based on market demand.
India will become the world’s largest automobile manufacturing center in the next five years. It was reported that Tesla is planning to launch and sell its cheapest electric car Model 3 in India. The price of this car in India is 5.5 million to 6 million rupees (about 75,000 to 81,500 US dollars).
At the same time, the Indian government is also vigorously promoting the sales of electric vehicles, because the government is paying more and more attention to emissions reduction and other sustainable development measures.
Gadkari stated that India is committed to reducing carbon emissions by 30% to 35% by 2030. He also emphasized that there is a surplus of electricity in India, and the benefits of electric transportation solutions in India are huge.
For a long time, Tesla has been trying to enter the Indian market, but due to lack of infrastructure, related policies, and the electric car market, these attempts have basically failed.
In October this year, Tesla co-founder and CEO Elon Musk hinted that the company will enter the Indian market in 2021. At that time, Musk said on Twitter that the company’s online order configuration function “will land in India in January 2021.”
After Musk hinted that Tesla would enter the Indian market next year, India’s wealthiest state of Maharashtra sent an invitation to Tesla and held discussions with the company.
