Apple loses against virtual iPhone maker in a copyright lawsuit

According to the latest news, US Florida Magistrate Rodney Smith (Rodney Smith) on Tuesday dismissed Apple’s allegations of copyright infringement against Florida virtual machine developer Corellium.

Apple accused it of copying (Apple’s) operating system, graphical user interface, and other (application) content of the iPhone device without permission, and accused Corellium of conducting activities by helping to discover vulnerabilities in the iPhone operating system. Then sell relevant information to the highest bidder in the open market.

Corellium’s software can help software researchers find vulnerabilities in Apple products such as the iPhone. Apple accused Corellium of actually copying the iOS system to create a “virtual” iOS device, the only function is to run an unauthorized copy of the system on non-Apple hardware.

Smith made a ruling in favor of Corellium, thinking that Corellium’s software used to simulate the iOS system is equivalent to “fair use” because the system has undergone “changes” to help developers find security vulnerabilities.

He pointed out that Corellium has added “new things” to the iOS system, allowing users to see and stop running processes, take snapshots, and do other operations.
