Microsoft Windows 10 free toolset PowerToys v0.29 is officially released: Utilities to customize

Microsoft’s free system utility suite called PowerToys was resurrected from the Windows XP era and introduced to Windows 10 in May 2019. Can be used for advanced users to adjust and simplify Windows operations to improve efficiency. By using it with the Windows 10 shell, also allows users to customize various workflows.

Microsoft released a new PowerToys update for Windows users, upgraded to version 0.29, mainly focused on increasing the end-user experience, stability, accessibility, localization, and improvements in daily use quality.

Due to the shorter development cycle due to the holiday of this month, larger work items will appear in the next version, such as improvements in the FZ editor and three new plug-ins for PowerToys Run. This update also does not include video conferencing utilities, which are only available in the experimental preview version.

  • Various localization improvements.

ARM64 progress

  • The .NET Core codebase controlled by the PowerToys team has been upgraded. But there are still two externally dependent .NET frameworks that need to be updated.

Color picker

  • Added the function of providing color names, which is the same as Office and WinUI color pickers.

FancyZones

  • Allows the use of Windows Snap on the desktop without an application layout, as well as applications in the exclusion list.
  • Bug fixes.

PowerToys Run

  • Improve performance
  • PT Run now supports accented characters.

Installer

  • Added the option of extracting MSI from .exe for enterprise scenarios, and more unattended installation options.
  • Removed the toast notification during the installation process.
