A few days ago, according to a report, the Indian Minister of Road Traffic and Transportation stated in an interview that Tesla will officially enter the Indian market in early 2021.
The first model is supposed to be Model 3, with a starting price of 5.5 million rupees or more (approximately RMB 490,000)
It is worth mentioning that in October this year, Tesla CEO Elon Musk responded to a tweet from Indian fans that the company will enter the Indian market in 2021.
As per the report, Tesla will initially focus on import sales, and in the future, it will assemble and produce its products in India.
The latest news shows that Tesla will launch the lowest-priced Model 3 in India first, and may begin accepting orders in India in a few weeks.
At the same time, it is also reported that the official sales will not start until the second half of next year.
Model 3, which is the first to enter India’s sales, is expected to be imported from China. The entry-level model is priced at more than 5.5 million rupees, comparable to the BMW 5 Series.
In contrast, the entry-level Model 3 that Tesla currently produces and sells in the Chinese market is priced at 249,900 yuan after subsidies, while imports to India have almost doubled.
Additionally, as in other countries in the world, Tesla is likely to adopt a direct sales model in India.
