Intel’s 12th-generation Core processor code-named ‘Alder Lake’ will include multiple series.
According to a report of toms hardware, a recent code from Coreboot shows that Intel’s 12th-generation Alder Lake-P processors will support both PCIe 5.0 and PCIe 4.0.
This series of processors provides a variable PCIe solution that can provide PCIe 5.0 x8 lanes or two PCIe 4.0 x4 lanes.
However, it seems that neither of these two solutions can continue to be split, and the code shows that it will be compatible with the previous generation PCIe 3.0 devices.
As per the news, it has not yet been confirmed whether Alder Lake-P represents a desktop processor or a mobile processor.
But from the demand point of view, the new generation of PCIe 4.0 and 5.0 have greatly improved the M.2 NVME solid-state drive, and for mobile graphics cards, PCIe 4.0 x8 is more than enough.
There have been reports that Intel’s 12th-generation processors will use large and small core designs, and Alder Lake-P will have up to 14 cores, including six Golden Cove and eight Gracemont cores. Additionally, Intel’s 12th-generation processors are expected to support DDR5 memory.
