Windows 10 antivirus software causes Chrome/Edge to not function properly

With the latest improvements of Chromium, Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Edge) can run smoothly even when the Windows 10 antivirus software is activated.

According to Google engineer Bruce Dawson, when Windows 10 antivirus software or scanners are configured to temporarily lock new files, some browser functions may not work well.

This problem becomes more obvious when your browser is installed in the system disk and the antivirus program has been configured to scan for new files created by third-party programs (such as Chrome).

When you save Chrome bookmarks or other files, Windows antivirus software will cause the operation to fail.

To solve this problem, Chromium-based browsers will try the ‘replace the file’ step multiple times to ensure that the browser creates a backup copy of the original file.

Google engineer Bruce Dawson stated that this is only implemented on Windows because this problem is only on the Windows platform.’

As of December 30, the revised code submission has been merged into Chromium and will be available to everyone in the next version of the browser.
