Apple is being asked to follow Xiaomi’s lead and offer users a choice: Smartphones with or without a charger
Apple was the first to announce last year that new smartphones will no longer have chargers and accessories in their boxes. This has helped to reduce packaging and environmental impact.
Xiaomi has released the flagship smartphone Xiaomi Mi 11, prompting users to decide for themselves whether a charger should be included or not. Moreover, the price of both kits is the same.
As a result, the Xiaomi Mi 11 kit without a charger was bought by 20,000 people or about 6% of the total. Lu Weibing, general manager of the Redmi brand, stated that these 20,000 users gave Xiaomi a huge amount of support.
On January 1, Tim Cook, Apple’s leader, posted the following message on Weibo: “Celebrate a New Year full of hope and opportunity, health and well-being, compassion and unity. This is the beginning of a safer world and a healthier planet for all of us. ”
In response to this message, one user suggested that Apple should follow the example of Xiaomi, which gives users a choice: “Xiaomi’s environmental plan seems to be the best. As a large company that cares about the environment, maybe you should react?” So far, Apple has not commented on the proposal in any way.
