According to the news, Gigabyte announced that the Z490 motherboard with PCIe 4.0 design will support the 11th generation of desktop processors, and only requires a BIOS upgrade.
Gigabyte also said that the latest 11th-generation Intel desktop Core processors will be launched in March 2021 and support PCIe 4.0.
Gigabyte stated that PCIe 4.0-level materials were used in the early stages of the development of the Z490 motherboard, including PCB, PCIe slot, M.2 slot, and controller.
With superior PCIe 4.0 components and innovative design enhancements, Gigabyte Z490 motherboards can already support the 11th generation Intel desktop Core processors. Gigabyte’s R&D team is accelerating the verification of more Z490 motherboards to gain full support for the 11th generation Intel desktop Core processors.
In October last year, Intel announced the relevant information of the 11th generation desktop Core processor Rocket Lake-S. Intel claims that Rocket Lake-S uses the Cypress Cove architecture, which will provide up to a double-digit percentage increase in IPC.
Intel Rocket Lake-S has up to 8 cores and 16 threads. The GPU part is based on Xe architecture. Intel said that compared with the Gen9 core display, the UHD core display performance of Rocket Lake-S is increased by about 50%.
On the other side, the 11th generation desktop Core has 20 PCIe 4.0 channels, integrates a USB 3.2 Gen 2*2 control chip, and supports the Intel 500 series chipset.
