Apple must wait at least 5 years to drive a self-driving car

According to News, people familiar with the matter stated that it will take at least 5 years for Apple to launch its self-driving car because the development work is still in the early stages.

Apple has established a small team of hardware engineers to develop drive systems, car interiors, and exterior body designs, with the goal of finally launching a complete vehicle. This goal is more ambitious than a few years ago.

Previously, Apple’s automotive projects mainly focused on the development of the underlying autonomous driving system. Apple has recruited more former Tesla executives for the project.

However, some Apple car project engineers believe that if Apple continues to advance this plan, the company may release a product within 5 to 7 years.

People familiar with the matter said that Apple’s cars are still far away from entering the production stage, although they warned that the timetable may change.

Most employees of the Apple car team are currently either working from home or working in the company for a limited time, hindering Apple’s ability to develop a complete vehicle. An Apple spokesperson refused to comment.
