LG brings a new webOS 6.0 TV system: New UI, support for NFC transmission remote control
LG announced today that it will bring a new webOS 6.0 system to 2021 4K and 8K TVs. The webOS 6.0 TV system adopts a more modern graphical interface, and two new functions are added, namely Magic Explorer (magic browsing) and Next Picks.
Among them, the Magic Explorer function can extract actor information and scene location from the TV programs watched by the customer, and push related programs. Next Picks will analyze the user’s viewing preferences and push the programs that the user is interested in.
WebOS 6.0 also supports voice control through Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, and ThinQ AI has also been upgraded to support more voice control functions than before.
In terms of remote control, LG’s new Magic Remote smart remote will include NFC function for the first time, supporting mobile phone and TV for content transfer.
Park Hyoung-sei, president of LG Home Entertainment, said: ‘webOS 6.0 is the biggest update since the webOS TV system was released in 2014.’ Currently, LG has not mentioned the upgrade of older TVs.
In 2013, LG acquired the webOS system from HP and plans to use it for the smart TV platform. In January 2014, LG officially launched a smart TV equipped with a webOS system at CES 2014.
