According to the report, after the launch of the dual-screen mobile phone Surface Duo in 2020, Microsoft hopes to further expand the dual-screen concept.
There have been many dual-screen or even triple-screen concepts before, and now a newly published patent shows that Microsoft is making efforts in the field of foldable screens.
Microsoft pointed out in the patent that mobile phones with folding screens can damage the screen in some cases.
In order to improve the durability of folding-screen phones, the research department is exploring a new concept called ‘moveable display’. Unlike traditional folding screens, the folding screen in the concept can be folded globally with low internal strain.
Although the patent was filed for the first time in 2017, it was not published by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) until last week, which means that Microsoft is likely to be still exploring folding screen designs for future Surface products.
As per the report, the patent will not be applied soon. The new Surface Duo may be launched in the second half of this year, and it will still use the same dual-screen design, upgrade the processor, camera, add NFC functions, and improve software and hardware compatibility.
