Apple releases iOS 12.5.1 including Exposure Notifications Bug Fix for older iPhones

Apple has released an iOS platform update not for its core iPhone lineup, but for older veteran iPhone models.

In December, Apple released iOS 12.5 for such smartphones with support for contact notifications with COVID-19 infected. The new iOS 12.5.1 fixes a bug related to these notifications.

iOS 12.5.1 is available for these devices:

  • iPad Air
  • iPad mini 2
  • iPad mini 3
  • iPhone 5s
  • iPhone 6
  • iPhone 6 Plus
  • iPod touch 6th generation

Previous to the release of iOS 12.5, the technology was supported on smartphones with iOS 13.5 and newer OS versions installed.

In Russia, at the end of 2020, the official application of the State Service has launched- the tracker, which uses the Exposure notification technology, jointly developed by Apple and Google.
