Microsoft announced that it will work with General Motors and Cruise to help commercialize self-driving cars

A few months ago, Microsoft has established cloud-centric partnerships with various companies such as Standard Chartered Bank, MasterCard, and Pepsi.

Today, Microsoft declared that it will cooperate with General Motors and Cruise (a self-driving car company under General Motors) to help commercialize Cruise’s autonomous vehicles.

As part of this cooperation, Cruise chose Azure as its preferred cloud provider, and General Motors also adopted it as its preferred public cloud provider. Cruise hopes that the enhanced cloud computing capabilities given will help the process of large-scale commercialization of autonomous vehicle solutions.

On the other hand, Microsoft will seek to enhance its product innovation by leveraging Cruise’s expertise. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella (Satya Nadella) said: The development of digital technology is redefining all aspects of our work and life, including how we move people and goods.

As the cloud of choice for Cruise and GM, we will use the power of Azure to help them scale and make it the mainstream of automated transportation.

Additionally, Microsoft, General Motors, Honda Motors, and institutional investors will also make a combined equity investment in Cruise, including a total value of more than 2 billion U.S. dollars, and push the financing of self-driving car services to 30 billion U.S. dollars.
