Today, BlackBerry declared today that it will further deepen its strategic collaboration including partner Baidu. Baidu’s high-precision map will be furnished with the QNX Neutrino real-time operating system and will be mass-produced in the upcoming new models of the GAC New Energy Aion series.
This is another milestone in the cooperation between the two parties after the ISO26262 ASIL-D certified safety operating system (OS) of BlackBerry QNX became the underlying application of Baidu’s Apollo open platform for autonomous driving in January 2018.
As per the report, Baidu is one of the few high-definition map suppliers certified by TÜV Rheinland Automotive SPICE. Automotive SPICE is an industry certification for the software development process of Tier 1 and Tier 2 automotive suppliers.
The access standards are very strict. With the world’s leading level of data refinement, Baidu’s high-precision map provides indispensable support for Chinese and foreign automakers to release next-generation connected and autonomous vehicles in China.
The QNX Neutrino real-time operating system on Baidu’s high-precision map is a full-featured and robust real-time operating system with a microkernel architecture that can provide deterministic performance and flexibility to cope with the limited resources of embedded systems.
Baidu uses the BlackBerry QNX embedded software as the underlying application and has made significant progress in building the Apollo platform business ecosystem, allowing OEMs to develop their next-generation cars based on these innovative technologies.
BlackBerry Technology Solutions (BTS), cooperation Dhiraj Handa, vice president of partner and channel business the Asia Pacific, said, ‘We look forward to continuing to maintain close cooperation with Baidu to help develop and deploy leading connected autonomous vehicle technology to meet the growing mission-critical and safety requirements of the automotive industry.’
Wang Yunpeng, General Manager of Baidu’s Autonomous Driving Technology Department, said: ‘Our goal is to provide automakers with a clear and fast path for mass production of autonomous driving under the premise of fully guaranteeing safety first.
The BlackBerry QNX software is functionally safe, Network security and reliability are outstanding, and Baidu has also made long-term development in the field of artificial intelligence and deep learning.
In the future, Baidu will also work with BlackBerry to support auto producers to produce safe self-driving cars faster and to promote synergy. The development of the intelligent networked automobile industry.”
According to the report, as a leader in the field of safe and reliable key embedded systems, BlackBerry QNX provides the most advanced basic software and network security technology to OEMs and Tier 1 automotive suppliers worldwide.
Today, more than 175 million vehicles in the world have used BlackBerry QNX software in their advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), digital instrument panels, interconnect modules, hands-free systems, and infotainment systems.
