Synology launched HAT5300 series of 3.5-inch mechanical hard drives

Recently, a world-renowned NAS storage device maker has released its own brand HAT5300 series of 3.5-inch mechanical hard drives, offering 8TB, 12TB, 16TB options, and the reliability are significantly better than previous third parties Enterprise-class hard drives.

As per the news, Synology updated its hard drive compatibility list yesterday, adding its own HAT5300 mechanical hard drive to the recommended list. Two of the latest storage servers will only be able to use Synology’s own and a few third-party hard drive models.

Officials stated that the HAT5300 series of enterprise-level 3.5-inch hard drives are based on Toshiba hard drives, and Synology has written the firmware itself.

After rigorous testing by Synology, the HAT5300 has a mean time between failures (MTTF) of up to 2.5 million hours, an annual write capacity of 550TB, supports 7×24 hours of operation, and has DSM tools to automatically upgrade the software.

Compared to the previous device, the performance of this device can be improved by up to 23%, the maximum continuous transmission speed can reach 274MB/s, and the official 5-year warranty is provided.

According to Synology’s official compatibility query tool, all consumer-grade NAS can utilize mechanical hard drives such as Seagate, Western Digital, and Toshiba, and are not affected.

At present, only Synology RS3621xs+ and RS4021xs+ enterprise-level storage servers restrict third-party hard drives, and are only compatible including Synology’s own SAT5200 and HAT5300 series hard drives, as well as a few models from Toshiba and Western Digital.
