According to the news, Apple’s rumored virtual reality (VR) headset may be released as soon as the first quarter of 2022.
The industrial design of Apple’s headset will be close to that of other brands of VR headsets. This headset will be furnished with six lenses and an optical lidar scanner to map the wearer’s surrounding environment.
As per the report, most of the components of the headset will start production in the fourth quarter of 2021. JPMorgan Chase disclosed some of the Apple suppliers of the device, such as TSMC in charge of the device’s processor, Largan and Konak in charge of the camera lens, and Pegatron in charge of assembly.
The report also pointed out that the supply chain of the headset is mainly concentrated in Taiwan, China. Yang Weilun noticed out that Apple’s new headset is aimed at the fruit powder at the top of the pyramid, and its pricing may be more expensive than VR headsets currently on the market.
The bill of materials (BOM) cost alone may exceed US$500 (about 3228 yuan). The supply chain will stock 1 to 1.5 million sets of parts and components required for products in 2022.
Gurman also announced, ‘Apple has planned to release the product as early as 2022′, which is consistent with JPMorgan Chase’s forecast for the first quarter of 2022.
Additionally, JPMorgan Chase also provided some information about Apple’s rumored augmented reality (AR) glasses project. Due to ‘complicated supply chain management and industrial design specifications,’ JPMorgan Chase predicts that Apple’s glasses are unlikely to be launched in the next 12 to 18 months.
Apple consciously makes the device ‘lightweight, beautiful, easy to wear, and able to withstand Long-term use’. The demand for prescription lenses and customization may also hinder production.
A few months ago, there have been more and more rumors surrounding Apple’s VR headsets and AR glasses, and one of the devices is said to have entered the “second phase of development.’
Recently clarified that Apple is planning to release a virtual reality headset that is expensive and aimed at niche markets, and that more ambitious AR glasses products will be launched at a later date.
Reliable analyst Ming-Chi Guo said earlier this month that Apple will release an unspecified augmented reality device at some point in 2021.
Additionally, DigiTimes quoted industry sources as reporting that Pegatron and Quanta Computer are currently competing for the final assembly order for Apple’s AR glasses products.
According to reports, Foxconn has already received component assembly orders. Most recent rumors have focused on Apple’s VR headset, and Apple’s VR headset is considered to be closer to production than its AR glasses, so DigiTimes may confuse the two products.
In any case, judging from recent reports, Apple seems to be focusing on establishing suppliers for its unreleased VR and AR hardware, which indicates that the speed of product development is continuing.
