Previously, we reported that Xiaomi is developing a smart phone with surround display. We can say that it is an improved version of Mi Mix Alpha. Recently, we have also seen a patent for a mobile phone with a detachable rear camera.
According to LetsGoDigital, Xiaomi has applied for a new patent for smartphones with surround displays. The new design was submitted to The Hague International Design System and WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office) by Beijing Xiaomi Mobile Software Company on January 8, 2021.
The design is almost the same as the Mi Mix Alpha with a pop-up camera. Even the displayed wallpaper is the same. This time, Xiaomi chose a wide notch instead of a retractable camera.
The notch at the top of the display can carry three cameras and dual flashes, and its configuration is similar to a pop-up system. All connections and buttons are the same, including the integrated 3.5mm headphone jack at the bottom.
As shown in the image, there are two models with different designs. The first one uses a pop-up camera design, the second one does not.
It is not clear when we can expect a new Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha model. Obviously, the Chinese manufacturer is still continuing its “surround display” smartphone project. We can expect more details to be announced by the company soon.
