NASA declared yesterday that it has selected SpaceX to provide launch services for the two-year astrophysics mission that will start in June 2024.
The mission is called Spherex, and the goal is to ‘explore the universe with near-infrared light’ to explore issues related to the birth of the universe and the development of galaxies.
NASA stated that Spherex will also search for water and organic molecules in areas with gas and dust and in accretion disks surrounding stars. Astronomers will collect information on more than 300 million galaxies and more than 100 million stars in the Milky Way. data.
The launch cost of the mission is about 98.8 million U.S. dollars. It will take off from the Falcon 9 rocket launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.
