ASUS will release ZenFone Mini, expected to use a much smaller display
After shipments in 2020 were lower than supposed, Asustek has sought to reposition its smartphone division. ASUS’s profit in the third quarter of 2020 was approximately US$61.8 million, of which the profit of the old model was US$17.8 million and the profit of the latest model was US$42 million.
Obviously, ASUS blamed the lack of components for the failure to meet expectations, but it has a plan to reverse the decline, including the launch of ZenFone Mini.
ASUS will release ZenFone Mini for users who like high-end but compact smartphones, just like Sony’s previous Xperia Compact devices. The report did not give further details of ZenFone Mini, and it is expected that the device will use a much smaller display than the 6.67-inch display of ZenFone 7 and ZenFone 7 Pro.
However, it remains to be seen whether a small flagship smartphone will sell well because even Apple’s iPhone 12 mini sales are not satisfactory. Additionally, ASUS will launch ROG Phone 5 before April. ASUS will continue to target the ROG Phone series to gamers, and Qualcomm Xiaolong 888 is the core of this year’s model.
ROG Phone 5 will be more expensive than its predecessor that may discourage some fans of the series. In the past few months, ROG Phone 5 has been leaked several times, but there is no news about the price of ROG Phone 5 yet.
