Microsoft has started testing the web version of the xCloud cloud gaming platform. In the future, games can be played through PC and mobile browsers, and it is supposed to support iOS devices.
According to the description, although xCloud can be accessed through a browser, Microsoft still requires to submit the game to Apple for review. This method can bypass the high share of Apple’s App Store.
Previously, Nvidia’s GeForce Now cloud gaming platform successfully supported iOS devices to use the Safari browser for cloud gaming. In the browser version of xCloud, users need to have an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription.
The browser version contains a simple game launcher page that requires the user to have a gamepad to play the game. The xCloud browser version currently only supports the Chromium kernel browser.
The iOS 14.5 beta version currently supports Xbox Series X|S gamepads, so iOS devices are likely to support xCloud cloud games in the future.
