Lenovo won PC championship, it surpassed Hewlett-Packard for first time in Europe, Africa, and Middle East
The International Data Corporation released data showing that the traditional personal computer market in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) achieved strong growth in the fourth quarter of 2020, a year-on-year increase of 16.6 %, sales reached 24.1 million units.
Lenovo surpassed Hewlett-Packard in the region for the first time, winning the PC championship with 6.2 million units shipped and a 25.7% market share. This means that in EMEA, for every 4 computers sold, 1 comes from Lenovo.
IDC-related analysts said that thanks to the huge demand in the consumer and education sectors, notebook computers achieved outstanding performance in the EMEA region in the fourth quarter of 2020.
‘The extended lockdown and increased restrictions have made the demand for devices that support entertainment and distance learning more urgent, shifting from having one computer per household to one computer per person.

In terms of manufacturers, IDC pointed out that Lenovo is currently the leader in the PC market in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, with a market share of 25.7%.
Benefited from the strong double-digit performance of the two major market segments, the company’s sales increased by 17.4% year-on-year. HP fell to second place with a market share of 23.2%.
The person in charge of Lenovo’s EMEA region stated that in the past ten years, Lenovo’s PC market share in the EMEA region has been rising, from 5.4% in Q4 in 2010 to 25.7% in Q4 in 2020.
Continuous breakthrough innovation, customer-centric strategy, and a stable global supply chain are the three major factors for Lenovo’s success.
In Q4 of 2020, Lenovo achieved more than expected growth in the EMEA region, and ranked among the top three in all European, Middle Eastern, and African market segments, and ranked first in key markets such as Germany and France.
Currently, Lenovo has four core series of products in the EMEA region, namely ThinkPad, ThinkBook, Yoga, and Legion. All of them will perform well in the market in Q4 of 2020.
