EA announced cancellation of the game project ‘Gaia’
The American game company EA declared the cancellation of the game project ‘Gaia’ that has been developed for more than 5 years. This game IP was established in 2015, and a small number of tidbits have flowed out since then.
In 2020, in the game promotion video launched by EA, a few seconds of ‘Gaia’ was shown. EA called this game ‘an ambitious and innovative game where players can put their power and creativity in their hands.
This game is an action-adventure game with a sci-fi background. In order to find Gaia, the birthplace of ancient civilization, players drive a spacecraft to the planet. After the spaceship crashes, players need to collect resources on this planet to survive and build a base.
The reason for the cancellation of the game project was that it failed the company’s evaluation. EA reviewed the game projects under development in early February, including ‘Gaia’ and a new version of the online game ‘Anthem’.
The tipster disclosed that the development process of the game ‘Gaia’ has experienced turbulence, and there has been at least one major restart that is one of the factors that caused the dissolution of the project.
EA spokesperson John Reseburg said in an inquiry from foreign media: ‘We have rich and powerful game content, and a total of 35 new games in different stages of development are in progress.’
The ‘Gaia’ project was established in 2015. EA established a game studio called Motive in Montreal, Canada, and hired senior game industry executive Jade Raymond to take charge of the development.
He was previously employed by Ubisoft and was responsible for the ‘Assassin’s Creed’ and “Watch Dogs” series of games. This executive left EA in the fall of 2018, and since then the ‘Gaia’ game project has not been progressing smoothly.
