Qualcomm has declared the release of its first AR smart glasses reference design that is based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR1 platform, which provides a high-performance, immersive experience, and lower power consumption.
The reference design of this AR smart glasses form can be connected to a variety of compatible smartphones, Windows PCs, processing units, and other devices, and it is also optimized for terminals furnished with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon mobile platform.
The AR smart glasses reference design has a built-in processing unit that can support the distribution of computing workloads to glasses and host devices. The AR smart glasses also support a series of important features and core use cases for the enterprise and consumer markets, including:
- Support for separate processing allows AR smart glasses to reduce the overall power consumption of the system by 30% through optimization on the glasses side.
- The system-level functions provided by the 2D application framework can lock the applications on the smartphone in the form of multiple virtual screens in the physical environment where the user is currently located. The framework also supports AR smart glasses to watch high-quality movies and streaming services under copyright protection.
- In the process of connecting with the PC, AR smart glasses can use plane detection and support multiple virtual display rendering capabilities to lock the virtual PC window to the plane of the real world.
- Using the 8MB RGB anti-shake camera, AR smart glasses can realize a remote assistant application that free hands, see what I see.
- The dual monochrome cameras on the AR smart glasses support six degrees of freedom (6DoF) head tracking and gesture recognition.
Qualcomm announced that in this reference design, BOE gives a micro-OLED binocular display that can support up to 90Hz frame rate and no-motion-blur characteristics to create a seamless AR experience.
The AR smart glasses hardware developed by GoerTek Co., Ltd. permits manufacturers to develop smart AR devices quickly and on a large scale. The Snapdragon XR1 AR smart glasses reference design is now available to some partners and will be available to more partners in the coming months.
