Microsoft plans to release a new Surface Laptop 4, with Intel Tiger Lake-U processors
Microsoft may plan to launch a new Surface Laptop 4 product in April 2021, equipped with Surface Edition AMD processors and Intel Tiger Lake-U processors.
Microsoft released the first Surface Laptop 3 notebook equipped with AMD processors in 2020. It is equipped with a customized Ryzen 7 CPU and integrated Radeon RX Vega 11 graphics.
Microsoft was cooperating with AMD to develop a variety of products that will also cover multiple generations of hardware. In January of this year, industry insiders revealed that the next-generation Surface Laptop 4 will use custom AMD CPUs in all models.
Currently, AMD CPUs are only available for 15-inch models, but this year, the smaller 13.5-inch models will use both AMD and Intel CPUs. Now, the newly leaked benchmark score shows multiple configurations of Surface Laptop 4.
In a benchmark run, this notebook uses the Intel Core i5-1135G7 (Tiger Lake-U) processor, the highest clock speed is 4.40Ghz, and the memory is 8GB. Single-core running is divided into 1384, and multi-core running is divided into 5214.
Another benchmark score shows that it runs a custom AMD processor called Microsoft Surface Edition. Single-core running is divided into 1063, and multi-core running is divided into 5726.
As you can see from the screenshot above, Ryzen 5 3580U is listed next to the processor name, but we believe this is just a placeholder.
This unspecified processor may be part of the AMD Renoir series, but we don’t know whether Microsoft intends to utilize Ryzen 5 4000 or 5000 processors.
Although the identity of the processor is still unknown, it looks like it will become a powerful device that will easily surpass the Surface Laptop 3.
Surface Laptop 4 expected release date
At present, Microsoft has not declared the exact release time of the Surface Laptop 4, but there are reports that the device will be released in April 2021.
After the Surface Laptop 4 notebook, we expect Microsoft to launch another Surface device sometime in October this year that may be called ‘Surface Pro 8.’ Unlike Surface Pro 7 +, Surface Pro 8 will utilize an upgraded design and internal hardware, including a new 32GB memory option.
