Tencent officially launched first fully self-developed multi-modal quadruped robot, uses an integrated design of foot wheels

Tencent officially launched the first complete self-developed multi-modal quadruped robot: the robot dog Max. The robot dog Max utilizes an integrated design of foot wheels and uses the original and self-developed foot wheel fusion scheme of Tencent Robotics X Lab, which means that it has legs and wheels.

The special wheel structure increases the speed of the robot dog wheel movement several times, up to 25km/h. Relying on Tencent’s self-developed software and hardware system framework, Max has a keen ‘nervous system and achieves sub-millisecond force control, which greatly decreases software and hardware system delays.

And Max also continues the robust control algorithm of the ‘big dog’ Jamoca, giving Max a developed ‘cerebellum’ and excellent balance ability. Max integrates NLMPC algorithm, QP optimization, compliant control algorithm, and completes the swing, balance anti-disturbance, and landing legs from lying on the ground to standing on two wheels.

Max is based on a self-developed robust control algorithm. The average calculation time is less than 0.3ms, and it has the ability to recover from a fall.

Even if it falls under a major impact, it can recover to normal operation by itself. Tencent Robot Dog Max is supposed to play a role in robot patrol, security, rescue, and other fields in the future.
