Samsung declares a new breakthrough in 5G speed

Posted on

Samsung’s official website declared that the company has made new breakthroughs in 5G data speed using E-UTRAN New Radio Dual Connectivity (EN-DC) technology. EN-DC technology allows mobile operators to use 4G networks to increase 5G speed and coverage.

The press released displays that in a demonstration conducted by the Samsung Laboratory in South Korea, the company successfully combined 40MHz of 4G spectrum and 800MHz of 5G millimeter wave spectrum, so that the data rate of a single terminal device reached 5.23Gbps.

In the demonstration, Samsung used its commercial end-to-end solutions including terminal equipment and network products. These include Samsung Galaxy S20 smartphones, 4G base stations, 5G base stations, and 4G/5G universal core network.

The above demonstration uses EN-DC technology, which enables operators to combine 4G and 5G to maximize the advantages of the two networks and improve network speed, coverage, and reliability. The technology also makes use of carrier aggregation.

‘Through this demonstration, Samsung is proud to have achieved another breakthrough record in 5G data speed. This demonstration highlights the powerful capabilities that can be provided to a single user by using 4G and 5G dual networks at the same time.” Samsung Network Business Deputy President Ji-Yun Seol said.

This strengthens our commitment to give customers the best 5G solutions and will help us continue to support mobile operators in providing 5G services to users.

GlobalData Chief Analyst Ed Gubbins said: ‘Mobile operators need to make full use of their limited spectrum assets to ensure that users can get an experience that provides the full value of 5G.

This demonstration demonstrates Samsung’s use of its core network, RAN, and terminal equipment. The end-to-end product solutions included helping operators maximize the unique capabilities of 5G return on investment.
