General Motors declared that it will launch its Hummer electric SUV version on April 3. In October last year, the company launched a Hummer electric pickup truck with a range of 350 miles and equipped with a series of high-tech features.
General Motors is producing an electric Hummer with the GMC brand logo, but GM officials are unwilling to disclose when the SUV is supposed to go into production. Hummer’s electric pickup trucks will start to be assembled at the end of this year, and will first give customers the highest equipped models.
The company is emphasizing the off-road capabilities of its Hummer electric vehicles, showing a picture of its pre-production Hummer electric vehicles running in the snow in Michigan. The truck market is still largely isolated from the electrification trend.
In 2010, after the global economic recession caused fuel prices to rise, General Motors retired the Hummer series. Now, the company is reviving the brand and investing billions of dollars in the next few years to develop new electric vehicles.
General Motors even redesigned its GM logo to make it look more like an electric plug to emphasize its transition to battery-powered cars.
Hummer’s electric SUV is the first model built on GM’s new electric platform Ultrium. The battery capacity ranges from 50 kWh to 200 kWh and the mileage can reach 400 miles farther.
