U.S. carrier AT&T expands 5G to all on older unlimited wireless plans

US telecom operator AT&T has issued a notice that it intends to upgrade to 5G/5G + network for all users with unlimited data plans for free this month. The company stated that this is feedback and encouragement to its former customers.

The company’s ordinary 5G network covers a wide range, but the speed is slow; 5G+ is a millimeter-wave 5G that is currently only deployed in a small number of cities.

The following are the types of consumer packages that are free to upgrade to 5G and 5G + networks:

  • AT&T Unlimited & More
  • AT&T Unlimited & More Premium
  • AT&T Unlimited Choice
  • AT&T Unlimited Choice II
  • AT&T Unlimited Choice Enhanced
  • AT&T Unlimited Plus
  • AT&T Unlimited Plus Enhanced
  • AT&T Unlimited Value
  • AT&T Unlimited

AT&T also stated that it plans to upgrade the 5G network for commercial package users starting next month. The packages included are:

  • AT&T Unlimited Choice for Business
  • AT&T Unlimited Plus for Business
  • AT&T Business Unlimited Basic
  • AT&T Business Unlimited Plus
  • AT&T Business Unlimited Enhanced
  • AT&T Business Unlimited Basic with Private Wi-Fi
  • AT&T Business Unlimited Plus with Private Wi-Fi
  • AT&T Business Unlimited Enhanced with Private Wi-Fi
  • AT&T Business Unlimited Preferred

David Christopher, executive vice president of the carrier, said: ‘In order to give back to our most loyal users, we are proud to upgrade all unlimited data plan users to 5G networks.

Now, more customers are able to Rely on the fast, safe, and reliable AT&T 5G network for gaming and watching HBO Max shows.’

AT&T’s 5G network currently covers 14,000 cities and towns in the United States and can be provided to 230 million people. 5G+ networks are currently only available in 38 cities.

In the C-band 5G spectrum auction of the US FCC, AT&T paid US$23.4 billion and won 1,621 licenses.
