ASUS ZenFone 8 Mini leak, with Snapdragon 888 chipset, uses a 5.9-inch screen
ASUS released the ROG Phone 5, the first flagship phone of this year, but ROG Phone 5 is not the only flagship phone that ASUS will launch in 2021. The kernel source code and software and found some clues about the ASUS ZenFone 8 series.
It is expected that ASUS ZenFone 8 series will launch a variety of mobile phones. Last year’s ZenFone 7 added a ‘Pro’ model to the series, and it is reported that ZenFone 8 series will add a ‘Mini’ version that will be positioned as a small-screen flagship.
In addition, there is a mysterious ‘ASUS ZenFone 8 Flip’ that appeared in the Google support document a few days ago, but it is not known whether the rumored ‘Mini’ and ‘Flip’ models are the same.
The kernel source code of ASUS ROG Phone 5 and found that it may be reference materials for three new flagship phones of ASUS. The code names of these three phones are SAKE, PICASSO, and VODKA.
The code name of the ZenFone 7 series is TEQUILA, while the code names of ROG Phone 3 and ROG Phone 5 are OBIWAN and ANAKIN, respectively.
As reported, expect SAKE to be the rumored ZenFone 8 Mini because it uses a 5.92-inch OLED display and is called a ‘small phone’ in ASUS software. The profile of the panel also mentioned that it will support a 120Hz refresh rate and Full HD + (2400×1080) resolution.
As for the camera, only two image sensors were found: the 64-megapixel Sony IMX686 and the new Sony IMX663. On the other hand, the PICASSO model seems to utilize the same panel as the ZenFone 7 series: a 6.67-inch OLED panel made by Samsung with a resolution of Full HD+.
PICASSO’s camera hardware is also very similar to the ZenFone 7 series, except for an additional 24 million pixel image sensor, which is strangely defined as a ‘front’ sensor in the kernel. Finally, the rumored VODKA device information is not much. It is worth mentioning that these three phones all use the flagship Snapdragon 888 chipset.
