This is the first time that Samsung Electronics’ Austin plant has been shut down for more than a month. Last month, the company dispatched more than 300 domestic technical staff to the local area to restart the line. Samsung Electronics did not officially disclose the extent of the damage, but stock prices estimate it to be over 300 billion won.
The Austin plant mainly produces semiconductors such as mobile applications (AP), solid-state drive (SSD) controllers, display driver ICs (DDI), CMOS image sensors, and RF chips based on a 14 to the 65-nanometer process. The production capacity is 100,000 wafers per month.
