Samsung discovers new 5G radio technology for cost effective 5G deployment
Recently, Samsung announced that it has developed a new 5G wideband radio technology, which expands bandwidth support for its next-gen radios (Massive MIMO radios) to help operators push more cost-effective and flexible 5G deployments.
According to Samsung, this new technology will help to extend the bandwidth support of its 5G radios to 400MHz, which is double from its current commercial radios. With wider bandwidth support, the company’s radios will help operators maximize the utility of their mid-band spectrum for 5G networks while using less hardware.
The new technology will let operators reduce the number of required radios while managing spectrum in various deployment scenarios. This includes the case where the operator owns a discontinuous frequency within the 400MHz bandwidth.

Operators can also use this solution for RAN sharing and actively share network infrastructure with other operators through joint deployment. The mid-band frequency provides a wide range of coverage, a combination of high speed and low latency. Samsung’s new radio will help accelerate operators’ 5G deployment in the mid-band spectrum.
Samsung’s new broadband solutions, including Massive MIMO radios, will be put into commercial applications in early 2022, providing operators with more operational and deployment advantages.
“Through our technical expertise and industry-leading 5G capabilities, we’re excited to continue delivering innovative 5G solutions that will bring more benefits to operators and their customers,” said Dong Geun Lee, Vice President and Head of H/W R&D Group, Networks Business at Samsung Electronics.
