The chip shortage will continue till mid-2022: Foxconn

Foxconn executive Young Liu recently issued a report to investors that the chip shortage did not affect Foxconn until March, which is different from the situation encountered by AMD and Nvidia. In addition, the global chip shortage will continue until the middle of 2022.

Although Foxconn’s impact is not great, the shortage of parts will still lead to a 10% drop in projected deliveries. Foxconn manufactures products for manufacturers such as Apple, Dell, Sony, and Nintendo, and related products will be affected.

Young Liu predicts that game consoles and graphics cards will not be available for spot purchase until next summer. He also added that the shortage of chips has the greatest impact on civilian consumer digital products because sales are higher than expected in the industry chain.

In contrast, for high value-added products that have locked long-term orders, the impact of chip shortages is very limited. In addition, Foxconn hopes to produce steam-electric vehicles, the gross margin increased from 5.56 to 10%.

Foxconn previously stated that it is expected to launch prototypes of electric vehicles and electric buses this year, and then deliver the first electric bus in 2022. In addition, Foxconn hopes to soon start the production of electric vehicles in Wisconsin and Mexico, with a planned total output of 10,000 vehicles.
