Google Wifi router management is getting rolled into the Google Home app

Google is known for overlapping multiple applications at once – see its messaging strategy. Although there is a dedicated app for Google WiFi and Nest WiFi to control and monitor your networking gear from your phone, the Google Home app has been steadily gaining similar features over the last few months.

This seems to be part of the company’s intentions and from next month, you will need to use the Home app to configure and customize your WiFi routers.

The dedicated Wi-Fi app will not close immediately and will switch to view-only mode from May 25. If you want to set up a new router, add an access point, or change your network preferences, you need to migrate to Google Home. The app will be permanently removed from the Play Store in June.

Google directly refers to home growth. The home app now controls all gadgets made by the company. Building specialized software for networking devices seems unnecessary.
